Poulithra, apart from being a Natura 2000 area with protected species of flora and fauna, is also a designated traditional settlement with rich elements of local architecture.
Characteristic of these are the mansions of the upper neighbourhood, the fishermen's houses on the beach and their warehouses, the scattered stone-built houses with their tall yards, the green courtyards with their flowers, the courtyard gates and their ovens.
